
I can safely say that I largely owe my impending entering into the Catholic church to this man, the Dutch writer Gerard Reve. This good man himself made the same step just over 40 years ago, at a time when the intellectual and artistic world had even more contempt for the Church than it has now. In moments of doubt I remind myself of that. I accept the notion that with reason I can go against common reason and accept faith in the one true God.
Let me quote the writer himself:
Life is meaningless and hopeless, and human existence can only have meaning and be understood in the light of Divine Mercy. There, that is what I say.
